WHAT THE ELDERLY NEEDS

WHAT THE ELDERLY NEEDS:

Old age happens to be the stage of humans, it also come along with its enormous challenges due to the psychological and physiological weakness in human body.it is the last part of human life which also is mostly characterized with weakness both physically and mentally. During this period the human body is unable to perform some functions because of the in activeness of the body cells, old age is also accompanied with forgetfulness, and the aged tends to forget things easily.
The needs of the aged can be categorized into two; Psychological and physiological need, Physiological NEEDS-this is mostly their physical needs such as shelter, food etc.

Nutritious food to maintain good health is very essential to senior citizens due to their health needs. being nutritious alone does not complete it but rather clean, the food should be prepared in a clean environment. They may not be able to meet their daily dose of meal thereby needing a helping hand to fulfill this obligation.

GOOD SHELTER:

Also is an important need of the aged, due to their failing health keeping them in a warm environment during cold season and keeping them in a cool environment during hot period is of paramount importance to keeping them safe during adverse weather conditions.

MOBILITY:

They should not be denied of mobility, being aged does not take away some social activities in one’s life, as for the aged, they really need it,, light exercise to keep their body active, going out for social activities also gives them a sense of relevance .

CLOTHING:

Their choice of clothe might be slightly different thereby, freedom with little assistance in choice of clothe can be adopted, as well as keeping them as clean as possible to avoid unnecessary illness.

PHYSIOLOGICAL NEED:

They are needs to keep their state of mind active as well as being mentally sound. This needs include;

Companionship-this is very important, they should not be left alone, having conversation with them and also once a while visiting their family members like children and grandchildren gladdens their heart.

Hygiene is very paramount in the life of the seniors due to their immune system which may not be very strong due to their old age,

Therefore personal hygiene is very important; we make sure that the linen is changed regularly to also avoid any form of discomfort.

Clean the kitchen:

Part of our services is ensuring that the kitchen unit is clean safe for any form of cooking, this we do by dish washing, making sure the kitchen smells good ,the kitchen floor free from any harmful object like pieces of glass, also making sure they are free from slippery substance such as oil, water etc.

Their personal hygiene should not be joked with, we make sure their clothing materials are fit for usage by keeping them clean.

  • Akin Care Senior Services Agency provided excellent care for my dad. On the first phone call, Ann was very attentive to my dad’s specific needs for a live-in caregiver and wanted to identify the perfect caregiver before accepting the job. I interviewed several other agencies and concluded they were going to be revolving door of caregivers. Once I selected Ann, she was very helpful in navigating what I needed to do and identified resources for me to access. What you get with Akin is honestly, Ann, the owner of the company. I live in Georgia and my dad in Princeton – so I really needed a local person I could count on and trust. Ann was always available by phone or text and was present with my dad as needed – without having to be asked. She identified the perfect caregiver matched to my dad’s physical and personality needs and they immediately hit it off. She treated my dad as if it were her own father. Thank you Ann – the peace of mind you gave me was precious.
